Filed under: Uncategorized, Middle East, United States News — Administrator @ 1:02 pm

That’s right, the U.S. is building another Border Fence.  This one isn’t the border fence promised at the Mexico-U.S. border though.  This one is over the ocean again in Egypt.

Cairo, Egypt (AHN) - The United States has announced that it is planning to help Egypt build a border fence along the Gaza-Egypt border. Washington transferred $23 million worth of special aid to the North African nation as part of its assistance in locating smuggling tunnels.

Over the past few months, smuggling between Gaza and Egypt has garnered more attention in light of the Israeli economic blockade on the small Mediterranean strip of land. Israel is calling on Egypt to improve its crackdown on Palestinian smuggling, which the Jewish state says allows weapons to enter Gaza that are then used against southern Israel.

The planned fence between Egypt and Gaza will employ technology directed at preventing the fence from being damaged. This is in response to Palestinian militants who blew a hole in the current wall between the two nations that allowed hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to flock into Egypt late January and early February.

The American Army Corps of Engineers plans to send teams to Egypt to help push forward the border fence plans.

No timetable has been given yet as to when the wall will be constructed

While building the wall, the Americans also hope to help Egyptian security forces locate and destroy smuggling tunnels into Gaza

Israel has welcomed the move, saying that American participation will help end the movement of weapons into Gaza.

Three Afghans Arrested at Indian Airport Trying to Pass as Mexicans

February 14, 2008
“Three Afghan nationals were detained at Nedumbassery Airport after they were deported from Kuwait while on their way to France.
The three persons claiming to be from Mexico told the airport emigration wing of the State Police that they possessed Malaysian passports.

Apparently the forged passports carried the names of Antonio Jopes Luan (42), Javier Fanchez Alberto (20), and Antonio Lopez Ernesto (16).

Of the three only one could speak English and the rest could not communicate. Shockingly none of the individuals were conversant in Spanish, which is the language of Mexico, yet proved to be fluent in Hindi.

The three also carried upon them several phone numbers of people from Afghanistan.

The three, who were not being cooperative with officials, made it difficult for investigating officers to get an idea of their agenda. Due to this lack of cooperation, and the inability to know what the three were planning, they are currently being held at the Chengamanad police station where they face further interrogation.

UPDATE - February 16, 2008

Investigation has revealed that the three Afghanistan nationals passports were original. The Emigration personnel at the Kochi airport were informed by the Mexican Embassy in Delhi on Friday that the copies of the Mexican passports seized from the deported Afghanistan nations were found genuine.

The Mexican Ambassador confirmed that the E-series passports of Mexico were the same as the copies of the passports in possession of the Afghanistan nationals. The Ambassador also requested that the original passports be handed over to him for them to find if the documents were stolen, and to locate the Embassy or Consulate from where they were lost. But Emigration personnel were not in position to send the originals due to their being produced as evidence in the Judicial First Class Magistrate.

Experts from various Central and State Intelligence agencies, including RAW, could find no difference in the seized passports from original Mexican passports.

This investigation is ongoing at this time and many questions remain.
